Business Scenario

Toppr Codr, a zero-to-one product, was launched with the vision of improving technological know-how among kids aged 6 to 18 through gamified, live one-on-one coding classes. While interacting with our customers- the parents- we realized their requirement for post-classroom engagement for their kids which would help them quantify their kid’s progress, improving visibility.

We started with mailing after-class assignments for every coding session the kids attended. Being agile, we realized the need to move from this offline, operations-heavy system of distributing, collecting, and reviewing assignments to having a digital, self-serve assignment module.

As an Associate Product Manager, I owned the digitization of the assignment flow for Toppr Codr, catering to 4 user personas- student, teacher, external reviewer, and parents.

User Story

As a student, I can

  • View the assignment given for each class
  • Solve the assignment using code.org as an IDE
  • Submit the assignment for review to the teacher
  • Chat with the teacher using a simple text and image supporting chat messenger so that I can clarify my doubts
  • Know the status of my assignment- Assigned or In Review or Completed

As a teacher, I can

  • Chat with the students using a simple text and image supporting chat messenger so that I can clarify their doubts
  • Review the assignment submitted by the student
  • Submit the assignment to an external reviewer when I find the assignment satisfactory
  • Know the status of every assignment- Assigned or In Review or External Review or Completed

As an external reviewer, I can

  • Review and verify the assignment marked as complete by the teacher
  • Approve or Decline each reviewed assignment

As a parent, I can

  • View the Report Card for my child so that I can see assignment completion status and feedback from teachers

Outcome

After iterations and improvements, the statistics looked like this:

  1. Received a 4.2/5 rating on student satisfaction on the developed assignment experience
  2. Doubled assignment completion rate from 15% to 28% through launching project gallery and student leaderboard
  3. Increase in Month-2 retention by 10 percentage points
Cohort analysis of month on month retention for paid users
